Do crises affect the sustainability of the economic effects of tourism? A case study of Hong Kong

The economic effects of tourism industry during periods crisis, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, have received significant attention in recent years. future is likely to pose a range new challenges and opportunities sustainable tourism. This paper employs Markov-switching vector autoregressions (MSVAR) model investigate sustainability tourism’s Hong Kong, both crisis absence crises. empirical results show that: (1) MSVAR effective capturing nonlinear relationship between economy allows for categorizing this into four regimes, example, “major event crises” regime “economic regime; (2) differ noticeably across different varies depending on presence type crisis; (3) Kong economy, particular, exhibits high levels stability sustainability.
